Drury Named All-America
MORROW, Ga. - Adrian Drury has received an honorable mention All-American award by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Drury, a native of Derby, England, was the starting goalkeeper for the Clayton College & State University, located south of Atlanta, GA. The freshman becomes only the second athlete at the school to receive the honor.
      Â
"I am delighted to get this," said Drury. "It is an honor to be recognized for your play and to be only the second person at the school to get this award."
      Â
Drury started in 19 games for Clayton State and played over 1600 minutes in net. He finished the season with A 2.67 goals against average, made 93 saves and recorded three shutouts. The 1994 graduate of Heanor Gate also assisted on a goal.
      Â
Clayton State finished the season with 5-16 overall record, but was 2nd in the Georgia Athletic Conference and reached the finals of the conference tournament.
      Â
"This is a stepping stone for me," said Drury. " My goal is to play professionally and this is another step towards that goal. I would have liked more success this season, but I am pleased that I played well and I feel that we have a fine group of players here that we can build upon."
              Â
Clayton State will now move up to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and begin play at the Division II level beginning next fall as a part of the Peach Belt Athletic Conference. Clayton State only began soccer in 1992 and goalkeeper Stacey Washington was awarded the school's first All-American that same year.
