ATLANTA – The Clayton State University track and field teams stayed close to home as they competed in the Emory Spring Break Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Lakers saw some solid performances from up-and-down the lineup in this two-day meet.
FRIDAY ACTION
MEN'S SIDE
Action on the track started in the 400m hurdles as
Davonte Jackson was .01 seconds from tying the school record in the event with a third place finish with a time of 53.46. The Lakers then had a slew of runners in the 200m dash but were led by
Drewmel Banks who clocked a final time of 21.99. In the field, Jackson led a group of Lakers in the triple jump with a 11
th place finish with a final mark of 13.58m.
Logan Wright and
Derrick White finished with final marks of 13.11m, and 13.07m, respectively. In the javelin,
Avery Moran finished with a final mark of 36.66m. Events for the Lakers on Friday concluded in the high jump as
Christian Wiltshire finished in seventh with a final height of 1.90m
WOMEN'S SIDE
The Lakers kicked off action on the track in the 400m hurdles as
Ivorie Smith finished fifth with a final time of 65.33. The Lakers were then paced by
Ziona Harris in the 200m dash as she finished with a time of 25.65. The field events,
Hailey Jackson-Morgan threw a final distance of 39.02m in the hammer throw and
Iyanna Jordan finished ninth in the triple jump with a final mark of 10.89m. The Lakers finished action on Friday with a victory in the high jump.
Keira Davis finished on top of the podium with a final height of 1.60m.
SATURDAY
MEN'S SIDE
On the second day of the meet, the Lakers saw action commence in the 100m dash as Banks and Turner qualify for the next round of the race with times of 10.66 and 10.68, respectively. Neither Laker qualified for the finals. In the 3K,
James Morrow finished fifteenth with a final time of 9:23.65. In the 110m hurdles, Jackson continues his impressive meet as he qualified for the finals and finished second with a time of 14.66. Jackson broke Lawrence DeShields' school record that dated back to 2008. The Lakers concluded matters on the track in the 4x200m relay as the team of
Quannas Johnson,
Dan Lamar,
Tyler Dixon, and
Anthony Somers finished in fourth with a time of 1:29.35. In the field events, Jackson concluded his day with runners-up finish in the long jump with a final mark of 7.49m. Jackson broke the school record and earned the second best mark in NCAA Division II.
WOMEN'S SIDE
The Lakers saw action on the track start in the 100m dash prelims.
Jada Jenkins qualified for the semifinals of the 100m dash with a time of 12.27. In the 4x100m relay, the team of
Destiny Hanna, Harris,
Justice Lester, and Jenkins finished fourth with a time of 47.71. In the semifinals of the 100m dash, Hanna paced the Lakers with a final time of 12.15, which is good for fourth all-time in the race. Jenkins improved her time and finished in 12.26. In the 400m dash,
Marley Tate won the event with a time of 55.94. She was the only runner in the event to go sub 56 seconds. That time is good for second in program history. Action on the track ended in the 4x800m relay as the team of Tate,
Ahlana Failey, Smith, and
India Williamson finished with the victory with a time of 9:49.74. In the field,
Janiya Daniel paced the Lakers in the long jump with a final distance of 5.22m.
