ATLANTA – The Clayton State University track & field teams competed in their final tuneup before the Peach Belt Conference Championships in the first weekend of May at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Lakers faced elite competition during their two-day meet.
FRIDAY ACTION
Davonte Jackson kicked off action for the Lakers as he finished in the top 25 in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.03. In the 100m dash,
Destiny Hanna finished in 12.20, while
Drewmel Banks and
Kevin Turner clocked times of 10.85 and 10.91, respectively. The Lakers concluded action on Friday in the 1500m run.
Camron Gaddis ran the second fastest time in program history as he clocked a time of 3:52.20 finishing in 24
th. He is only the second Laker to clock a sub 3:53.00 time in program history.
Emanuel Dixon also finished with a time of 4:01.70.
SATURDAY ACTION
Action on the track started in the 400m hurdles as
Ivorie Smith finished in 24
th with a time of 64.14 while Jackson clocked a time of 54.44, finishing in 20
th.
Marley Tate led the Lakers in the 400m dash as she crossed the finish line in 21
st place with a time of 56 seconds.
Justice Lester and
Ziona Harris, who ended up being in the same heat, finished with times of 57.50 and 57.55, respectively. In the 800m run, Ahlana Faley set a new PR with a time of 2:16.52. In the men's race, Gaddis continues his impressive meet with a 26
th place finish with a time of 1:52.86. That is good for a new PR and fourth all-time.
Sancho Smith ran a time of 1:54.14 while
Rakiem Barnes, who set a new PR, clocked a time of 1:54.45.
Action on the track concluded in the 200m dash as Hanna led the Lakers with a time of 25.01 while
Jada Jenkins followed finishing in 25.07, which is good for a new outdoor PR. In the men's race, Turner clocked a time of 22.10.
