Recap consists of post-meet comments by head coach Mike Mead
A nice finish to a terrific second season! It was an honor to run with the best the NAIA has to offer and that's no knock. This was the toughest competition our squad has faced to date -including the D-One folks we've run against. Mary ran a super race and was in the hunt for All-America. Consideringshe was coming off a mid-week illness (cold or flu?) she finished 10 seconds out of earning AA honors. Dawn was back from anemia to run a magnificent race. With the frustrating senior season she has had, it was great to see her complete her cross count!)' career this way. Dana had another break-through race and we're looking for great things from her next year. She lowered her PR and has improved over two minutes this season! Barbara had the only off-day (we think it may be a touch of anemia) of our seven, but still ran sub-21. Gloria, Stacey, and Sarah all improved their PR's and got great experience for future races.
With six of our seven running best (personal or season) times, we're vel)' pleased with our showing. With our move to NCAA next year, we'll have to step it up another notch to return next season to Kenosha (host of the NCAA Division I I championships in 1997). With four of our top five returning, we have a great foundation to build upon. Special thanks to our Michigan contingent (the Meads and Schwerdts) that came over to see us run. Also to my better half who flew in from Mal)'land. Kudos from the Athletics staff for the BIG cookie on Friday. Special appreciation to all our supporters who've backed us all season. Thanks to Coach Taro for his dedicated work (we couldn't have done it without him); John Zubal and Vern Chinn for getting us back on our feet when we broke down; Coach Barfield and Dotty Bumbalough for helping us through all the paperwork; the Clayton News/Daily for the excellent coverage; and all the Clayton State parents, faculty, staff, and students who backed us throughout the
