Gaddis Leads Cross Country at the Georgia Tech XC Invitational

FAIRBURN, Ga. – The Clayton State University cross country teams competed in the Gerogia Tech XC Invitational Friday morning at Bouckaert Farms.  The men's team finished in seventh  place while the women placed 18th
 
MEN'S RACE
Leading the way for the Lakers was no other than Camron Gaddis. In a stacked field featuring the nation's best, Gaddis finished in 34th and seventh among DII runners in the field.  Gaddis clocked a time of 26:53.73, which is a new season best.  Following Gaddis was Rakiem Barnes who finished in 51st with a time of 27:21.41.  That is also a new season best for Barnes. 
 
Emanuel Dixon and Mykell Strickland followed finishing third and fourth on the team, respectively.  Dixon, who finished in 62nd, clocked a time of 27:49.62 and Strickland, who finished in 71st, crossed the finish line in 28:11.90.  James Morrow rounded out the top five on the team with a 76th place finish with a time of 28:39.90.  Sancho Smith, Nehemiah Horton and Brandon Nolen rounded out the Lakers who finished in the top 100 individually.

WOMEN'S RACE
The Lakers took on their first 6k race of the season on Friday morning in a very stacked field including powerhouse schools including Florida State, Georgia Tech, UAB, and Embry-Riddle.  Leading the way for Clayton State was Marley Tate.  Tate was the only Laker to finish in the top 100, placing 98th with a time of 25:48.30.  Following close behind was Ivorie Smith who finished in 103rd place with a time of 26:01.02.  Story Alexander, who was the only active Laker to race in a 6k race, placed third on the team with a time of 26:37.92.  JaBresha Palmer and Kalkidan Hawkins rounded out the top five finishers for the Lakers.  Palmer clocked a time of 27:19.84 while Hawkins ran a time of 28:18.08.

The Lakers return to the course on Friday, October 11th as they compete in the Royals XC Invitational in Charlotte, N.C.
