Gaddis and Alexander Lead the Lakers at the Julius Johnson Invitational

The men finished third while the women finished sixth

Women's Cross Country | September 21, 2024

MACON, Ga. – The Clayton State University cross country teams were back on the course on Saturday morning as they competed in the Julius Johnson Invitational.  The men finished in third place while the women finished in sixth overall.  Mercer University, the meet host earned the team and individual victory on both the men's and women's side. 
 
MEN'S RACE
The Lakers were led by their junior captain Camron Gaddis who finished in 11th with a time of 25:26.74. He is only the 11th Laker to go sub-26 minutes.  Following Gaddis was freshman Emanuel Dixon and Rakiem Barnes.  Dixon finished in 19th place with a time of 26:15.31. Barnes finished in 21st clocking a time of 26:19.60.  Mykell Strickland and James Morrow rounded out the top-five on the team with finishes of 39th and 43rd overall. 
 
The Lakers ran an impressive race and finished third overall.

WOMEN'S RACE
Leading the way for the Lakers was senior Story Alexander who finished in 22nd place with a time of 20:00.19.  Following close behind was Ivorie Smith and Marley Tate.  Smith and Tate finished in 28th and 31st, respectively, both clocking sub-21-minute times.  Rounding out the top five for the Lakers were JaBresha Palmer and Brianna Eggleston.  Palmer placed 48th overall with a time of 21:50.46 while Eggleston ran in 74th place with a time of 25:51.34.   
 
The Lakers finished in sixth place with 149 points.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Lakers compete in the Asics/Alexander Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech, on Friday, October 4th at Bouckaert Farms in Fairburn, Ga.  The women's race is at 9:20 a.m. and the men race at 8:20 a.m.
