AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced on Thursday morning its selections for the Track & Field Team of Academic Distinction (TOAD). Clayton State University saw three of its athletes selected.

JaBresha Palmer and
Destiny Hanna and men's athlete
Sancho Smith were selected to this prestigious list. Smith earned his second PBC TOAD distinction in track to go along with being a multi-time selection in the cross season. Palmer earned her first PBC TOAD selection in the track season while she gathered TOAD honors in the cross season. Hanna earned her first such distinction.
Smith, who is studying Accounting, had another solid season for the Lakers. Smith placed in the top 10 in five events and primarily ran in the 800m and 4x400m relay. In addition, he set a new PR in the 1000m run this season with a time of 2:39.88 and clocked a season-best time in the 800m run of 1:57.45. Palmer, who is studying criminal justice, like Smith, was primarily an 800m runner. She saw her best time come at the Emory Spring Break Classic clocking a time of 2:21.01. She also finished in the top 15 in the conference meet in the race.
Hanna, who is also a criminal justice major, had a great season for the Lakers. Destiny was a two-time all-conference selection between the indoor and outdoor season. She was apart of the 4x100m relay team that took home the conference championship in the outdoor season and currently holds the school record in the event. This season saw Hanna also place in the top ten in 12 events.
ABOUT THE HONOR
To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieve a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) complete at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee the program.
