Men's Track & Field | March 7, 2026
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Clayton State University track & field teams competed in its first outdoor meet of the season at the Savannah State Eye Opener on Saturday. The Lakers finished second, as a team, in both the men's and women's sides.
MEN'S SIDE
Action on the track kicked off in the 4x100m relay where the team of
Marcus Robinson,
Drewmel Banks,
Kevin Turner, and
Tyler Dixon won the race with a time of 41.91.
Dion Dial and
Sancho Smith then took second and third in the 1500m run with times of 4:16.19 and 4:16.86, respectively. Robinson followed up his performance in the relay with a second place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 49.10. Smith,
Rohan Holness, and
Jamien Wright all finished in the top 10 in the race.
In the 800m run,
Camron Gaddis won the race with a time of 1:55.92.
Rakiem Barnes finished third in the race.
Davonte Jackson then kicked off his final outdoor season with a race victory in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.55. Wright finished third in the race. Robinson then led the Lakers in the 200m dash with a second place finish, sprinting to a time of 22.37. Action continued the track for Dial in the 5K as he finished second with a time of 16:57.34. The Lakers concluded action on the track in the 4x400m relay as the team of
Santonio Rio, Holness, Jackson, and Smith finished second with a time of 3:19.23. Two other teams competed in the race as well for the Lakers.
In the field events,
Avery Moran took third in the javelin throw with a final mark of 37.10m. The Lakers also saw success in the long jump as
Logan Wright paced the Lakers with a third place finish with a final mark of 6.73m. Wright then followed that up with a third place finish in the triple jump with a final distance of 12.83m.
WOMEN'S SIDE
Action on the track started in the 4x100m relay where the team of
Destiny Hanna,
Jada Jenkins,
Ziona Harris, and
Aerin Summers finished in second with a time of 48.51. In the 400m dash,
Justice Lester and Harris took third and fourth with times of 58.71 and 59.89, respectively. In the 100m dash, Jenkins sprinted to a third place finish with a time of 12.63, while Hanna finished fifth.
The Lakers then dominated in the 800m run as they took six of the 10 places led by
India Williamson,
Ahlana Failey, and
Ivorie Smith who finished one through three. India won the race with a time of 2:20.22 while Failey and Smith clocked times of 2:21.04 and 2:21.30. The 200m dash saw Jenkins lead a pack of Lakers with a fourth place finish with a final time of 25.97. Action on the track concluded in the 4x400m relay as the team of Williamson, Tate, Harris, and Failey finished second with a time of 3:57.99.
Action in the field events started in the women's hammer throw as
Jacquelyn Johnson won the event with a final distance of 38.49m while
Hailey Jackson-Morgan finished second with a final distance of 33.87m. In the high jump,
Keira Davis finished in a tie for second with a final height of 1.54m. Jackson-Morgan then won the discus throw with a final mark of 31.24m. Johnson then came back and took third in the shot put with a final mark of 10.20m.
