MORROW, Ga. – The College Sport Communicators (CSC) announced on Tuesday afternoon its selections for the 2025 CSC Academic All-District Award.  The Clayton State University men's and women's soccer teams saw a good showing on the honor roll. 
 
On the women's side, Dayla Ayayda and Laila Ortiz-Nolan earned this distinction while Joao Amaral, Miguel Torrecillas, Camilo Velez, George Roke, Garbhan Fenney, and Sonny Simpson represented the men's team.  Everyone except for Velez earned this award for the first time in a Laker uniform.  Six men's soccer players are the most in program history to receive this award in a single season. 
 
A native of London, Ontario, Canada, Ayayda scored one goal in 16 matches this season, mainly coming off the bench.  Dayla was also a 2025 PBC Presidential Honor Roll recipient.  A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ortiz-Nolan is also no stranger to honors as she also was a 2025 PBC Presidential Honor Roll selection last season.  Laila was one of the few Lakers that appeared in all 17 matches and she made 16 starts.  This season saw Ortiz-Nolan notch an assist in 957 minutes. 
 
A native of Porto Allegre, Brazil, Amaral was instrumental off the bench for Coach Petersen.  Joao played in 18 of the 20 matches and knocked in a pair of goals and added a pair of assists.  This is Joao's first such academic accolade as a Laker.  Torrecillas and Velez also put together very nice seasons.  Torrecillas, who captained the team this season, played in 17 matches and scored a pair of goals.  In addition, Miguel was a 2025 PBC Presidential Honor Roll selection.  Camilo Velez put together a good season for the Lakers.  The Peachtree City native was a second-team All-PBC selection and notched a team-high eight assists.  He also was second on the team with 33 shots.  This is the second time Velez has earned this distinction. 
 
Roke, who was the primary keeper for the Lakers this season, had a good season.  In 14 matches, George made 65 saves, conceded 21 goals, and pitched three shutouts.  Rounding out the CSC All-District selections for the Lakers were Feeney and Simpson.  In 18 matches, Garbhan scored a pair of goals and added three assists.  This is the first such academic distinction for Fenney in a Laker uniform.  Sonny Simpson, who is a native of Scotland, was a stalwart on the defensive side for Clayton State.  Simpson scored three goals and notched a team third best five assists.   

AWARD REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for this distinction, the student athlete must boast a 3.50 GPA, appear in at least 90% or start in at least 66% of the matches played, and must have been at the institution for at least two seasons.  If the award winner is a transfer, the student athlete must be at their current school for at least a semester.  The Academic All-America announcement for the women will be announced on December 16^th while the men will be announced on the 17^th of December.
