AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) selected its Men's Soccer Players of the Week on Monday afternoon.
After picking up two, key, wins last week to open PBC play, the Clayton State University men's soccer team swept Players of the Week with
Geo Rios winning Player of the Week,
Christian Ransome winning Defensive Player of the Week, and
Mauricio Uribe won Goalkeeper of the Week.
A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Rios earned his first Player of the Week distinction of the year. Rios scored a goal and added an assist against Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday, September 13
th while also adding a goal and an assist against Flagler on Saturday, September 18
th. Currently, Rios is second in the PBC and tied for 23
rd in the nation with 10 points. In addition, Rios is tied for sixth in the nation with four assists.
A native of Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago, Ransome earned his second PBC Defender of the Week accolade in three weeks of the award. Under the leadership of Ransome, the Lakers only surrendered one goal on 16 shots faced. In all, the Lakers has allowed the fewest goals in the PBC and only allow 1.16 goals a match. A native of Miami, Fla., Uribe earned his first Goalkeeper of the Week accolade as a student-athlete at Clayton State. Uribe picked up his second shutout of the season in the 2-0 victory over Flagler. In the match against Flagler, Uribe made a season-high four saves.
The Lakers host the Crusaders of North Greenville University on Tuesday, September 19
th at 4 p.m. at Laker Field.
