MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team announces on Wednesday afternoon its 2023 schedule.  The schedule consists of nine home matches and seven matches on the road.  The Lakers are coming off a 2021 season where they went 10-5-4 overall and posted a record of 7-3-2 in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). 
 
"We are excited to be playing some new faces," said head coach Pete Petersen.  "We open with Catawba and go down to Florida to play Tampa and Saint Leo.  The way the Peach Belt is right now home and away so we will see one or two teams probably a lot."  
 
The Lakers play a pair of teams in Lander University and the University of Tampa that reached the 2022 NCAA Tournament.  Lander won their first round match against Tampa but lost to Florida Tech.  The schedule also features six non-conference matches.  The Lakers open their season on August 31^st as they host the Catawba College Indians in the Laker Classic and welcome Montevallo on September 2^nd to close out the Classic. 
 
Clayton State then travels to the Sunshine State and competes against Tampa on September 8^th and Saint Leo on September 10^th.  Coach Petersen's squad then opens its PBC schedule on the road at Georgia Southwestern on September 13^th.  The Lakers then open their PBC home schedule with a tournament rematch with Flagler on September 16^th.  That match kicks off a four-match homestand which also features PBC Tournament and Regular Season Champion Lander, North Georgia, and North Greenville.
 
The Lakers then go on a four-match road trip with stops at USC Aiken, Flagler, Lander, and North Georgia.  The Lakers then close the regular season with hosting Young Harris on October 24^th, USC Aiken on October 25^th, and Georgia Southwestern on October 28^th.  Then, the PBC Tournament is slated for October 31^st through November 11^th and the NCAA Division II Championship will follow suit on November 12^th through December 10^th. 
 
Below are some notable promotions that will be featured in the 2023 season and their corresponding dates:

• Tuesday, September 19^th (North Greenville): Faculty/Staff Day
• Saturday, September 23^rd (Lander): Alumni Day
• Saturday, October 28^th (GSW): Senior Day
