Men's Soccer | December 7, 2023
MORROW, Ga. – The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the United Soccer Coaches (USC) announced its selections for the Men's Soccer All-America. The selections were spread across three teams.
For the second straight season, Clayton State University midfielder
Geo Rios earned All-America honors. He earned second-team All-America last season while he earned first-team honors this season. Rios is only the second Laker in program history to earn back-to-back All-America awards joining Alex Dowling. Rios is one of four repeat selections on the list. The Lakers also saw
Alexis Iturria earn his first All-America team as he was selected to the third team. The only other Peach Belt Conference (PBC) selection was Lander's Christian Hatley who also garnered third team honors. In addition to their D2CCA success, both Rios and Iturria earned first-team All-America honors for the USC. Rios and Iturria are the only PBC selections. This is the first such selection for Rios and Iturria in their careers.
A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Rios has had himself a phenomenal season. This season was one for the record books for Rios as he broke the school record for the most career points, most career matches played, and most career matches started. This season also saw Rios earned his fourth-straight PBC First-Team All-Conference accolade and his third straight PBC Offensive Player of the Year honor. Rios scored a team-second best 10 goals and added 12 assists. The Laker midfielder and three-year captain has notched double-digit assist numbers for the third straight season. In addition to these accomplishments, Rios was also one of five Lakers to earn College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District and D2CCA All-Southeast Region honors. He was also one of four Lakers to earn United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region honors.
A native of Hampton, Ga., Iturria also had a great season. The Laker forward led the team with 13 goals and is tied with Rios for the team lead in assists with 12. Iturria also led the team, the conference, and the nation with 103 shots. His 103 shots are 24 more than anyone in Division II and he broke the single-season Laker school record that was set in 1995 by Hall of Famer Jason Nidiffer. In addition, he also led the team and the conference with 38 points. Iturria, thus far this season, was a first-team All-Conference selection for the second time in his career and was one of four Lakers to be a D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-Southeast Region.
