KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Clayton State men's and women's soccer teams have earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for their efforts in the classroom this past academic year.
This marks the first time either team has been recognized by United Soccer Coaches.
College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2020-21 academic year.
The women earned a team GPA of 3.62 while the men had a team GPA of 3.40.
Last season, four soccer student-athletes (
Mitro Turunen,
Josh Rodgers,
Isabel Massa and
Ann-Cathrin Zabel) were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team while Turunen and Zabel were named CoSIDA Academic All-America recipients. Last season marked the first time in program history that two student-athletes earned the award in the same season.
The two teams also combined for 15 student-athletes on the PBC Team of Academic Distinction, 34 on the PBC Presidential Honor Roll and 14 on the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards team.
In addition to the PBC and National recognition, the women's soccer team was awarded the department's Academic Team of the Year award which goes to the team with the highest GPA.
