HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Competing in their first single day meet in three weekends, Clayton State men's track & field packed nine Top-10 finishes into the Gulf South/Peach Belt Challenge on Saturday, April 6.
Headlining those efforts was a first place finish out of 24 competitors in the 800-meters by senior
T.J. Witherspoon (Thomasville, Ga.). He would earn that with a personal best time of 1:52.96. That would be followed by a 2-of-6 performance by the 4x400-meter relay (3:17.25) consisting of junior
Chris Florence (Newnan, Ga.), sophomore
Courtland White (Rex, Ga.) and freshmen
Churchill Ezeokonkwo (Riverdale, Ga.) and
Brian Sims, Jr. (Trussville, Ala.).
Florence would deliver an impressive day as he posted a 4-of-21 finish in the 400-meters at 48.82 and was 6-of-26 in the 200-meters with a time of 21.89. Sims would join him with a third place finish in the 400-meters (48.19) to go along with an 8-of-26 outing in the 200-meters (22.01). White would chip in with an 8-of-24 finish in the 800-meters with a mark of 1:57.86.
Freshman
Derrick Ward (Marietta, Ga.) notched a 3-of-10 outing in the 110-meter hurdles (16.11) and fellow freshman
Janei Sewell (Newnan, Ga.) was 9-of-27 in the 100-meters (11.14) and 12-of-26 in the 200-meters (22.49). Junior
Keldren Reddick (Thomasville, Ga.) rounded things out with an 11-of-24 outing in the 800-meters (1:59.10).
The Lakers return to action from April 18-20 when they head to Daytona Beach, Florida for the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Championships hosted by Embry-Riddle.
