AUGUSTA, Ga. – In what has already been a strong start to the 2018-19 campaign, freshman
Janei Sewell (Newnan, Ga.) delivered the first Peach Belt Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week honor for the program since 2015 as announced by the league on Tuesday, March 12.
Â
His selection comes following an impressive first career outdoor meet as he delivered three Top-10 finishes to lead the Lakers. Those were highlighted by a 3-of-14 outing in the 4x400-meter relay (3:22.93) with junior
Chris Florence (Newnan, Ga.), sophomore
Courtland White (Rex, Ga.) and freshman
Churchill Ezeokonkwo (Riverdale, Ga.). Individually he was 5-of-52 in the 200-meters with a time of 22.82 and 7-of-48 in the 100-meters (11.26).
Â
"A nice honor for Janei as he is one of the standouts among our freshmen class!," said head coach
Mike Mead. "His hard work is steadily paying off, especially as we head into the outdoor season."
Â
Overall, Clayton State has had five weekly men's track selections since the league began sponsoring outdoor track & field in 2013 with this being the first since
Job Kemboi earned the honor on April 29, 2015. He leads the program with three selections all-time with the only other being Ayrton Azcue in 2013.
