BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Clayton State men's indoor track & field kicked off the 2019 portion of the schedule as they competed at the Emory CrossPlex Invitational on Saturday, January 20. The club did not factor into the team standings for the meet.
Newcomers paced the Lakers top performances on the day with freshman
Derrick Ward (Marietta, Ga.) leading that group. He notched a 10-of-25 outing in the 60-meter hurdles as he posted a time of 8.84 while fellow freshman
Churchill Ezeokonkwo (Riverdale, Ga.) was 20-of-49 in the 400-meters (51.93).
Sophomore
Courtland White (Rex, Ga.), who is in his first year with the program, finished 21-of-49 in the 800-meters with a time of 2:04.38 and freshman
Janei Sewell (Newnan, Ga.) was 22-of-50 in the 60-meters (7.18). Junior
Evan Ortiz (McDonough, Ga.) added a 22-of-48 performance in the mile after notching a time of 4:43.66 and freshman
Michael Gray (Pooler, Ga.) was 27-of-49 in the 400-meters (52.51).
Lee won the meet with 100.50 points, followed by Troy (72), Alabama-Huntsville (66), Emory (63.50) and Cumberland (45).
The Lakers will be back in action for a two day meet beginning on Friday, February 1 when they head to the Carolina Challenge. Hosted by Division I South Carolina, that meet will conclude on Saturday, February 2.
