Laker Track & Field Gathers Several Top Five Finishes at the Berry Field Day Invitational

ROME, Ga. – The Clayton State University track & field teams competed in the Berry Field Day Meet on Friday and Saturday.  The Lakers competed against some very stiff competition throughout the two-day meet.  The women's side placed sixth out of 16 schools while the men finished in 11th.  Berry earned the win on the women's side while Montevallo took the men's title. 
 
FRIDAY ACTION
The Lakers started their day in the 400m hurdles where Ivorie Smith placed sixth with a time of 67.46.  In the men's 1500m run, Nehemiah Horton finished in eighth with a time of 4:03.64.  The Lakers closed out action on the track in the men's 5K as Camron Gaddis crossed the finish line with a PR in the race and a fifth place finish.  Camron ran the race in 15:32.54 and is good for the seventh fastest time in program history. 
 
SATURDAY ACTION
The Lakers kicked off action on the track in the 4x100m relay where the team of Destiny Hanna, Cayla Brown, Ziona Harris, and Cassidy Jenkins finished in third with a time of 48.85.  Later in the meet, the Lakers ran well in the 400m dash as Rebecca Oji and Ziona Harris gathered points as they finished in eighth and ninth place, respectively.  Oji finished in 60.11 while Harris finished in 60.19.  In the men's race, Rohan Holness finished 10th with a time of 51.19.  In the 100m dash, Brown finished sixth with a final time of 12.24. 
 
In the 800m run, Marley Tate and JaBresha Palmer led a loaded Laker field with times of 2:25.72 & 2:26.07, respectively.  Tate finished in fifth while Palmer crossed the finish line in sixth.  On the men's side, Horton finished as the race's runner up with a time of 1:57.09 while Gaddis finished fourth with a time of 1:57.42.  In the 200m dash, Brown continued her strong day with a fourth place result with a time of 25.41. In the 3K steeplechase, Story Alexander won the race with a time of 12:31.80.  Story won the race by nearly 10 seconds. 
 
In the field events, Brianna Eggleston finished with a huge PR in the javelin with a final mark of 24.79, which is also good for 6th all-time and is the best mark in the event since 2014.  In the men's long jump, Desmond Major finished sixth with a final mark of 6.26m while Christian Wiltshire finished ninth in the event.  Wiltshire followed that up with a seventh place finish in the high jump with a final mark of 1.86m.
