COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Clayton State track & field teams opened its 2025 Outdoor Season at the J.D. Evilsizer Invitational on Saturday. The Lakers saw some tremendous results in their first outdoor meet.
MEN'S SIDE
Action on the track started in the 4x100 meter relay as the team of
Kalani Wyman,
Titus Hand,
Kelvin Oppong, and
Jonah Peters finished third with a time of 42.30. In the 110m hurdles,
Davonte Jackson picked up a second-place finish with a final time of 15.32. Jackson then came back and won the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.92. In the 400m dash,
Titus Hand paced the team finishing in sixth place with a time of 51.85. Hand then finished 13
th overall in the 200m dash with a time of 22.41. In the 1500m run,
Nehemiah Horton finished in fourth with a time of 4:09.56. Horton was one of four runners that finished with a time of 4:09.
The Lakers closed out the meet in the 4x400 meter relay as the team of Hand,
Nehemiah Horton, Isaiah Prince-Oyakhire and
Desmond Major finished fifth with a time of 3:28.69.
In the field events,
Freddie Hawkins finished in third in the high jump with a final height of 1.90m while
Rodney Crawford finished in fourth with a height of 1.85m. Jackson then took his talent to the field as he placed in a tie for fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.62m and he finished second in the triple jump with a final mark of 14.48m.
WOMEN'S SIDE
Action on the track started in the 4x100 meter relay as the team of
Payton Knowles,
Cayla Brown,
Destiny Hanna, and
Jada Jenkins finished second with a time of 48.10. The team of
Cassidy Jenkins, Ashanti LaStrapes,
Jada McClide, and
Karmyn Jordan finished third with a time of 50 seconds. In the 400m dash, Harris and
Rebecca Oji finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 60.45 and 60.60.
JaBresha Palmer finished seventh in the race. In the 100m dash, Jenkins paced the team with a fifth place finish with a time of 12.53.
Destiny Hanna and Brown followed with sixth and seventh place finishes while Knowles crossed the finish line in ninth. Jada followed that up with a fourth place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 25.64. Brown followed behind in fifth clocking a time of 25.75.
In the 3K,
Story Alexander crossed the finish line as the champion with a time of 12:13.49. Story finished nearly 12 seconds better than second place. The distance crew kept their winning ways as
Ivorie Smith outlasted Palmer in the 800m run with a time of 2:18.61 while Palmer finished second with a time of 2:27.37.
Marley Tate rounded out the top three positions as she ran the race in 2:29.72. The Lakers closed out the meet in the 4x400 meter relay as the team of Harris, Oji, Smith, and Tate finished as the meet's runners-up with a time of 4:06.70. In the field,
Maya Jackson finished seventh in the long jump with a final distance of 4.63m.
Brianna Eggleston competed in the discus and shot put, putting up PRs in both events.
