AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced on Monday afternoon its selections for the Team of Academic Distinction (TOAD) for the men's and women's basketball teams. Both Clayton State University basketball teams saw one student-athlete placed on the list.
Brian Coffey II and
Jordan Jones were the only two Lakers who earned this distinction. Coffey II was only one of six individuals placed on the list while Jordan was one of 24 players.
A native of Snellville, Ga., Coffey II earned this honor for the first time in his career. Earlier this season, Brian was selected as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honoree and was also recognized on the NABC Honors' Court in 2021. Coffey II had a good season for the Lakers in 2022-23. He averaged 11.8 points a game, 29.8 minutes a game, and dropped in double-digit point totals in 16 games. In addition, Coffey II led the team with 62 assists and made 27 three-pointers.
A native of Helena, Ala. Jones also earned her first TOAD honor. In her lone season with the Lakers, Jordan played in all 31 games and made a team second-best 23 three-pointers. In those 31 games, Jones averaged 6.5 points a game and scored in double-figures in seven games.
In order to qualify for this distinction, the student-athlete must boast a 3.50 GPA or higher, attend the institution for more than one year and be an impactful contributor to the team.
