DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – The Clayton State University track & field teams concluded play in the 2023 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Outdoor Championships on Friday. The men's side earned their best finish in program history finishing in third with 113 points, while the women's team tied for their best finish in program history in forth with 69 points. The Championships were hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and put on at the ERAU Track Complex.
The Lakers saw early success on the track in the 4x100 meter relay. The team of
Titus Hand,
D'Eris Jackson,
Roderick Winfrey, and
Nigel Roulhac took third with a final time of 43.05, while the team of
Adriana Ameer,
Cayla Brown,
Mikayla Osborne, and
Ahlana Failey finished as the runners-up with a time of 48.35. Both teams earned all-conference honors in the race.
The Lakers then continued its dominance in the 400m dash throughout the years as Hand won the race with a final time of 48 seconds while Roulhac finished second with a final time of 48.16. Hand raced to the fastest time in the conference this season. In the women's race,
Adriana Ameer finished second crossing the finish line in 57.89 seconds. Ameer gathered all-conference honors. In the 100m dash, Brown finished in third with a time of 12.25. That time is good for a PR for Brown as well as an all-conference nod. In the 800m run,
JaBresha Palmer finished in 13
th in the race with a time of 2:21.77. That time is good for a PR for Palmer by three plus seconds. In the men's 400m hurdles,
James Kilgore finished in fourth place with a final time of 55.76 seconds while
Adriana Ameer finished second on the women's side with a time of 1:05.01. Ameer gathered her second all-conference mention of the day.
In the 200m dash, Hand continues his strong day as he pulled out a fourth-place finish with a time of 21.63. The Laker sprinter ran the fourth fastest time in the PBC this season. Winfrey finished eighth in the race. On the women's side, Brown brought home her second all-conference honor as finished second in the race with a time of 24.82. Brown was .20 seconds from tying the school record for the 200m dash. Osborne finished fifth in the race. In the women's 3k steeplechase,
Tanaeya Johnson broke her own school record set in the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open with a time of 12:11.22. Johnson finished 10
th in the race.
The Lakers ended the Championships with their fifth straight title in the men's 4x400 meter relay. The team of
Sancho Smith, Hand,
Jelani Ameer, and Roulhac finished with a time of 3:16.46. That time is the fastest time in the 4x400 meter relay in the PBC this season. The women's team of Osborne,
JaBresha Palmer, Failey, and
Adriana Ameer finished as the runners-up with a final time of 4:03.68.
In the heptathlon,
Sasha Knowles finished in fourth place with a total score of 2819. Sasha finished fifth in the long jump, javelin, and in the 800m run.
Darryl Jefferson ended up also finishing fourth in the decathlon with 4296 points. Darryl finished the event with a first-place finish in the 1500m run while placing fifth in the discus throw and seventh in the javelin.
In the field events,
Carlton Grisson finished ninth in shot put with a final mark of 11.81m and finished fifth in the discus throw with a final distance of 37.68m. In the men's triple jump,
Davonte Jackson brought home all-conference honors finishing in third place with a final jump of 13.92m. Davonte also jumped to a new PR as well.
Abijah Wilcox finished fourth in the event with a final distance of 13.89m.
The Laker men's team beat out Augusta in the 4x400 meter relay to earn a third-place finish in the meet, which is their best finish in school history, earning 113 points. The women's team also beat out Augusta in the 4x400 meter relay and earned a fourth-place finish with 69 points. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical, the host school, won both the men's and women's titles.

Sasha Knowles also earned All-Sportsmanship team honors.
Abijah Wilcox was the Laker representative on the All-Sportsmanship team on the men's side.
