ATLANTA – The Clayton State University track and field teams concluded competition at the Emory University Thrills in the Hills Open on Saturday afternoon.  The Lakers saw a plethora of top three finishes and qualifiers for next month's Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championships. The Clayton State men's team finished sixth out of 21 schools while the women also finished sixth out of 19 schools.

The Lakers got off to a good start on the track in the 4x100 meter relay.  The team of Ariyonna Jones, Maya Adams, Mikayla Osborne, and Cayla Brown ran to a first-place finish of 47.63 seconds.  The men's 4x100 team of D'Eris Jackson, Christopher Hart, Roderick Winfrey, and Titus Hand finished in sixth with a time of 42.60 seconds.  In the 400m dash, Adriana Ameer finished as the race's runners-up with a time of 58.25 seconds.  That time is good to qualify for the PBC Championships later in April.  In the men's 400m dash, the Lakers also saw Keith Hicks qualify for the PBC Championships with a time of 49.61, which was good for fourth place.

In the men's 800m run, Sancho Smith continues his strong outdoor season as she finished in third place with a time of 1:54.94.  Darryl Jefferson finished 10th in the race with a time of 1:58.57.  Later, on the track, after qualifying for the finals, Brown raced to a fifth-place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 12.56 seconds.  However, Brown was the fastest collegiate runner in the race beating out runners from Montevallo, Emory, and Tallahassee Community College.

The Lakers ended competition on the track in the 4x400 meter relay.  The team of Jones, Ameer, Osborne, and JaBresha Palmer won the race with a final time of 3:57.87 and was the only team in the race to go sub-four-minutes in the race.  On the men's side, the team of Hand, Ameer, Keith Hicks, and Nigel Roulhac finished as the race's runners-up with a time of 3:18.18.

The Lakers also saw some success in the field events.  In the triple jump, Abijah Wilcox finished in fourth place with a final distance of 13.82m.  That mark is good for a season-best for Abijah.  On the women's side, Ny'Asia Green jumped to a third-place finish with a final mark of 11.16m.  That mark is good to qualify for the PBC Championships.
