MORROW, Ga. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) unveiled its selections for the Men's Soccer Academic All-District team on Tuesday afternoon. The Lakers saw five men's soccer players on that list spans over the three divisions of the NCAA and the NAIA.
This is the third-straight season that
Geo Rios earned this award while
Christian Ransome earned this award for the second-straight season.
Hector Fuentes,
Ian Gomez, and
Isami Takeuchi were selected to their first CSC Academic All-District honor. The Lakers were one of three Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools (Lander & Flagler) that saw at least one player on the list.
A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Rios earned this honor for the second straight year. Last season, in addition to this award, Rios was the third men's soccer player in program history to earn the CSC Academic All-America honor. This season was one for the record books for Rios as he broke the school record for the most career points, most career matches played, and most career matches started. This season also saw Rios earned his fourth-straight PBC First-Team All-Conference accolade and his third straight PBC Offensive Player of the Year honor. Rios scored a team-second best 10 goals and added 12 assists. The Laker midfielder has notched double-digit assist numbers for the third straight season.
A native of Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago, Ransome earned this honor for the second straight year. This season, Ransome earned the Conference's Defensive Player of the Year, a feat that no other Laker has achieved in their career. Ransome scored a goal and added an assist in the NCAA First Round match over Lenoir-Rhyne University on November 16
th. Over his Laker career, Ransome is a two-time All-PBC selection and has earned various academic awards including PBC Team of Academic Distinction and the PBC Presidential Honor Roll.
A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Fuentes had a good season for the Lakers. He earned a second team All=-PBC accolade. This season, Hector scored a goal and added an assist, but his main job was to set up his fellow forwards and midfielders with scoring opportunities. He is recognized by coach Petersen as one of the leaders on the pitch. A native of Tema, Ghana, Gomez earned this accolade for the first time in his two-year career as a Laker. Gomez and the defensive unit only conceded 23 goals this season which is the fewest since 2019. Gomez only amassed two shots the entire season. Rounding out the selections is Takeuchi. Isami garnered this honor for the first time in his three-year career in Morrow. This season, Takeuchi also earned a second-team All-PBC selection, and he scored a goal and added an assist. Like Fuentes, Isami is one of the best runners on the team and his main job is to set up key scoring opportunities for the Lakers.
