MORROW, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced its women's soccer Players of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Clayton State University women's soccer players
Carrie Consolino and
Daniela Gularte earned the Player and Defender of the Week honors. This is the first such honor for Consolino and Gularte in their Laker careers.
A native of Peachtree City, Ga., Consolino has really come into her own for the Lakers. The draw with Lander, last Wednesday, Carrie scored the match-tying goal for the Lakers with nine ticks remaining on the clock. In the 4-0 win over Auburn Montgomery on Sunday, the Laker sophomore rang the cash register twice and added an assist. In that match, Consolino also rifled in 13 shots, which is a season high for any Laker. Carrie has also scored four goals in the last four matches. This season, Consolino is tied for third in the PBC with 45 shots and is tied for fifth with six goals.
A native of Bluffton, S.C., Gularte, and the Laker defensive unit saw two really promising results last week. In the 2-2 draw with Lander, the Lakers made five saves and held the Bearcats to 14 shots. Coming into the match, Lander averaged 17.6 shots a game. In the 4-0 victory over AUM, Gularte notched her first assist of the season and was a part of a Laker defensive unit that only allowed six shots the entire match. Sunday's victory was the third shutout of the season for the Lakers.
Clayton State travels to Americus, Ga. to play the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday, October 18
th. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
