MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State track & field jumper
Abijah Wilcox etched his name into the records book on Thursday as the junior was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team.
This is the second Academic All-District recognition the Lakers have received this season as Lewis Green of the men's soccer team was recognized.
To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Wilcox is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors which will be announced on June 16. Clayton State has seven all-time Academic All-America selections.
Wilcox, a health & fitness management major, competed in 11 events across both the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons.
Competing primarily in the jumps, the Albany, Ga. native finished in the top two five times and earned nine top-five finishes. His hard work paid off as he earned a Silver Medal at the Peach Belt Conference Championships in the triple jump.
His distance of 14.02mw ranks 12th in the Southeast Region and is a personal best.
He was one of three members of the Peach Belt Conference to be named to the team.
Wilcox is the first member of the track & field or cross country program is be named to the Academic All-District team since Nia Elmore was after the 2018-19 season. He is also the 12th member of the Clayton State track & field and cross country program to be recognized.
Wilcox has been named to the PBC Team of Academic Distinction and PBC Presidential Honor Roll once.
Twenty-three Lakers have been recognized by COSIDA since 2011-12.
