KENNESAW, Ga. – The Clayton State women's cross country team opened the season on Friday morning as the Lakers competed in the Kennesaw State Opener.
Hosted by Kennesaw State, the 4K race included over 80 runners and nine teams, six of which were Division I institutions.
Georgia Tech took four of the top five spots and the team title. Clemson placed second while Kennesaw State was third.
The Lakers finished eighth overall, but second in same-division competition. Conference opponent North Georgia placed seventh.
Newcomer
Kalkidan Hawkins led Clayton State with a 19:39 while
Sasha Knowles was second.
Shaniya Joyner and
Ny'Asia Green were the next to finish before
Brianna Eggleston crossed the line.
The Lakers compete next Friday at the UNG Cross Country Invitational for 6:30 p.m. 5K race.
