Clayton State's Wilson Earns D2CCA All-Southeast Second-Team Honors; 10th All-Time Selection

HICKORY, N.C. – Senior guard Taneria Wilson (Fort Pierce, Fla.) capped an outstanding two-year career at Clayton State as she was named a D2CCA Women's Basketball All-Southeast Region Second-Team selection on Thursday, March 12.

It is the first such honor by a Laker since Yishica Sims claimed First-Team recognition during the 2014-15 season and the 10th overall. The award signifies her as one of the 10 best players in the Southeast Region.

Already the Peach Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year and an All-PBC First-Team selection, Wilson was also named the league's Player of the Week three times (Jan. 20, Feb. 17, Feb. 24). Of the latter, she also became the first player in program history to win the award in consecutive weeks.

A force to be reckoned with all season, she averaged 16.7 points, 3.6 steals, 3.1 assists and 4.4 rebounds while starting all 30 games.

There was good reason for her to win those awards as she set the program record with 36 points, along with 10 rebounds, three steals and three assists, at rival Columbus State (2/19) and tied the program record with 10 steals, along with a then near record 34 points with four assists and five rebounds at Francis Marion (1/8).

Beyond program marks, Wilson is one of the top defensive players in the country as she finishes the season No. 3 in total steals (107) and fourth in steals per game. In the PBC she led all players in both of those categories, was among the leaders in games played and started and her 474 points was second in the league. Her 998 minutes was third overall and 16.7 points per game is was the third most.

Individually, she posted 25 games in double-figure scoring (14 of at least 20 points) and 19 games with at least three steals and was a key factor in the Lakers then Southeast Region best 11 game win streak. During that stretch she delivered averages of 18.6 points, 3.8 steals, 2.5 assists, 4.8 rebounds.

She joins Sims, Drameka Griggs (2012-13 First-Team and Region Player of the Year), Teshymia Tillman (2010-11 First-Team and 2009-10 Second-Team), Tanisha Woodard (2011-12 First-Team and 2010-11 Second-Team), Shelcey Harp (2005-06 Second-Team), Jasmine Patterson (2005-06 Second-Team) and Catreia Shaw (2002-03 First-Team) as the other individuals to earn All-Region recognition.
