NEW ORLEANS, La. – For the first time in program history, Clayton State women's track & field has been named as a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team as announced by that institution on Monday, July 22.
Â
While both the men's and women's cross country programs have a long history of earning this honor, this marks the first time either Laker track & field program has accomplished the feat. The USTFCCCA has presented the honor since the 1997-98 season, which coincides with the first year of track & field at Clayton State.
Â
As a team, the Lakers women's program posted a cumulative GPA of 3.06 and are among 130 programs that met the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement to earn the honor this season.
"This is a fine honor for the women's team," said former head track & field coach
Mike Mead. "We have a hard-working squad in the classroom and on the track who are motivated to get a quality education that leads to a satisfying career. I hope the team continues to earn this honor just like the women's cross country program who has received it for the past eight straight seasons."
