Clayton State 2018-19 Season in Review: Women’s Soccer

MORROW, Ga. – With the close of the 2018-19 campaign, the Clayton State Sports Information Office is producing a Season in Review for each of the program's 11 sports.
 
That series began with the fall season and will progress to the winter and spring campaigns. Each week reviews will be released on Mondays and Wednesdays until concluding with the final spring sport on Monday, July 8 and the Athletics Season in Review on Wednesday, July 10. Today we take a look back at the 2018 Women's Soccer season.

2018 Season in Review
  • Finished 6-6-4 overall and 3-5-2 in Peach Belt Conference
  • Tied No. 13 North Georgia 1-1 on October 15 in rescheduled game
  • Delivered 2-2 tie at USC Aiken to return to PBC Tournament for 17th time in 19 years
  • Posted third highest number of ties in program history with four
  • Manoly Baquerizo delivered game winning goal in 1-0 decision in final 19 seconds against Valdosta State
  • Followed VSU game with back-to-back, 110 minute 1-1 ties against West Georgia and Montevallo
 
Individual Achievements/Honors
  • Brouer earned All-Peach Belt Conference Second-Team Honors. Extended a stretch of 18 straight seasons with at least one All-PBC selection
  • Baquerizo led team with eight goals, five assists and 21 points
  • Zabel and Pia Haug each had three goals, an assist and seven points
  • Isabel Massa produced three goals for six points
  • Manoly Baquerizo, Claudene Bent, Janne Brouer, Marie Durr, Jane McKevitt and Ann-Cathrin Zabel named to PBC All-Academic Team
  • Baquerizo scored in seven different games, including two goals and an assist against Francis Marion
  • Brouer and Hikari Taguchi anchored a defense that posted eight games of one goal allowed or fewer, including a pair of shutouts. Both started all 16 games and played all 1,527 minutes while Hannah Richards started all 16 games in goal and posted a 1.71 goals against average
