MORROW, Ga. –  Continuing what has become an impressive tradition, Clayton State Athletics has earned the 22^nd CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in the program's history 30 year history as women's soccer sophomore forward Isabel Massa (Caracas, Venezuela) has earned her first such honor as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday, November 7.
 
Massa has played in 11 games this season, starting four, and has scored a pair of goals and dished out an assist to help the Lakers to a 7-6-1 overall record. Those goals came in wins over Georgia Southwestern (10/2) and USC Aiken (10/16) while she assisted on the eventual game-winner in a key 3-1 decision over Young Harris (11/2).
 
As an all-around contributor, she has also been a factor in seven games where Clayton State has allowed one goal or fewer this season, including a pair of shutouts. In her two-year career, that total climbs to 14 games of one goal or less and three blankings.
 
Last season she played an integral role in one of those games as she delivered the tying goal in a 1-1 deadlock with No. 15 North Georgia (10/15) and stepped up defensively as the team played with 10 players for the final 54 minutes. This year she has also been named to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team in her first year of eligibility.
 
Massa's selection marks the 17^th time in the last nine seasons, and 22^nd time overall, that Clayton State Athletics has had at least one individual selected to what is now known as the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. Of those 22 selections, an incredible 14 have come since 2014-15 and includes all four multi-time honorees and three of the four Academic All-America's.

In terms of selections by program, the women's cross country/track & field programs have produced nine selections, good for the most in school history. Including the two selections on the men's side in 2011-12, those programs have accounted for more than half of Clayton State's Academic All-District choices.
 
For women's soccer, this is the sixth such honoree and first since Maria Marti Bartis in 2016. The latter went on to earn her second consecutive First-Team Academic All-America honor. She is still the only individual to be named to the First-Team and the only one to earn multiple Academic All-America recognitions.

Massa is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors which will be announced on Wednesday, November 4. Clayton State has four all-time Academic All-America selections and earned one each in a program record three straight years from 2015-18.
 
ABOUT THE COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA PROGRAM
The 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
 
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
