Clayton State Set for 18th Appearance in PBC Tournament in 20 Years; Travels to No. 3 Seed UNC Pembroke

MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (8-6-1, 5-5-1 PBC) women's soccer has earned an 18th trip in 20 years to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament as they travel to No. 3 seed UNC Pembroke (14-4-0, 8-3-0 PBC) on Tuesday, November 12. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Pembroke, N.C.

The Lakers have qualified for all but two PBC Tournaments since the league began sponsoring women's soccer in 2000 and have appeared on nine of the last 10 brackets. In those previous 17 appearances, they have won a total of 12 games, including their first game of the tournament six times (2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2013, 2014).

Twice they have won the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship, doing so in 2005 and 2013. In 2005 they defeated Columbus State 2-1 in overtime and knocked off Georgia College in 2013. In the latter the teams went to overtime tied at 2-2 before Clayton State eventually pulled it out on penalty kicks by a 4-2 margin.

All-time the Lakers are 9-10-2 against the Braves and are 4-5 on the road in the series. Following three straight wins by the Lakers from September 22, 2012 through September 27, 2014 UNCP has now won the last six.

That stretch began on September 26, 2015 and includes a narrow 4-3 PBC Quarterfinal victory on November 2, 2016. That was followed by a narrow 1-0 decision on September 20, 2017 in Morrow during their PBC Championship season and they posted a 2-0 victory in Pembroke, North Carolina on October 6, 2018. Most recently the Braves earned a 3-1 decision at Laker Field on October 20 of this year.

The winner of the quarterfinal matchup will advance to the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Semifinals in Evans, Georgia. They will play either No. 2 seed North Georgia or No. 7 seed Young Harris on Friday, November 15. The championship game will be played on Sunday, November 17.

There will be both live video and live stats coverage of the game both of which are available on www.ClaytonStateSports.com.
