NEWBERRY, S.C. – Senior defender
Kwaku Dwamena (Lorton, Va.) continues to rake in the honors as he becomes just the second Clayton State men's soccer player to earn multiple Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Southeast Region selections as announced on Wednesday, November 14.
Â
For the second straight year Dwamena was named to the D2CCA Second-Team, making him the only other Laker besides current assistant coach
Avery Shepard (2014, 2015) to accomplish that feat.
Â
Clayton State's leading point getter with 15, on a team-high five assists and club-high tying five goals, was previously named to the Peach Belt Conference Second-Team. The latter earned him a second consecutive selection following First-Team recognition last year.
Â
Additionally, Dwamena was one of just three players to start all 17 games and was third on the team with 1,477 minutes. In that time he produced a career game against Shorter (9/6), registering a personal best seven points with a career-high three assists to go with a pair of goals and a score and assist against Georgia Southwestern (9/22).
Â
Competing in one of the tougher conferences in the country, including one that currently sports the No. 1 team in the land in Young Harris, he is one of 12 PBC players to be named to one of the two teams. That group consists of just 26 individuals and he is one of only three players that hail from the United States, joining Lander's Jacob Withers and Queens' Edmundo Robinson.
Â
"Proud of Kwaku for finishing on a tough but positive note," said head coach
Pete Petersen. "We all are wishing him success at the next level!"
Â
With his second straight selection, Dwamena is the 21
st overall selection in team history and is one of 19 individuals in program history to be so honored. It also marks the ninth time in the last 10 seasons that the Lakers have had at least one player on an All-Region team. Â
NOTE: Prior to 2015, the D2CCA All-Southeast Region Team was title sponsored by Daktronics.
