HARTSVILLE, S.C. – To be included among the 10 best players in your region, and one of only nine to be so honored in the illustrious history of your program, is a tremendous accomplishment – and one that senior forward Yishica Sims (Jackson, Ga.) has achieved as she has been named to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region Women's Basketball Second-Team.
After completing a season in which she broke a nearly decade old program record while averaging 18.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game in 29 games and 28 starts, Sims finds herself listed among the elite of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region.
This season she knocked down an incredible 81 three-pointers, breaking the record of 61 set by Teri Willis in the 2005-06 season, and ranked third in scoring in the Peach Belt Conference behind only 2015 Southeast Region Player of the Year Michelle Mitchell of Columbus State and Co-PBC Player of the Year Stephanie Huffman of North Georgia.
She was within two points per game of both as they averaged 20.0 points per game on the season and ranked in a tie for second in total threes and a tie for seventh in steals. Beyond the rankings and records, Sims developed into one of the most explosive players in the league, recording at least 20 points a total of 13 times with 10 of those coming against members of the Peach Belt.
Highlighting those outings was a near program single game record 32 points against Flagler (1/17) as part of a six game stretch in which she notched at least 20 points five times from January 17-February 4. It also included 25 points and a career-high tying 12 rebounds at North Georgia (1/24). She capped that stretch with 25, behind five threes, against No. 10 Columbus State (2/4).
Sims is one of just four student-athletes from the Peach Belt Conference to land on this year's All-Region team, joining Mitchell, Huffman and Carrie Washington of Columbus State. An All-Peach Belt Conference First-Team honoree, she becomes just the eighth player in program history and 10th selection overall to an All-Region team.
She joins Drameka Griggs (2012-13 First-Team and Region Player of the Year), Teshymia Tillman (2010-11 First-Team and 2009-10 Second-Team), Tanisha Woodard (2011-12 First-Team and 2010-11 Second-Team), Shelcey Harp (2005-06 Second-Team), Jasmine Patterson (2005-06 Second-Team) and Catreia Shaw (2002-03 First-Team).
Sims selection also marks the 7th time out of the last 12 years that Clayton State has had at least one player named to the All-Region Team.
