Paskell Delivers Fourth Goal in Two Games as Clayton State Deadlocks 1-1 at Young Harris

Boxscore YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Playing for positioning in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference Tournament, Clayton State (9-7-1, 5-5-1 PBC) battled Young Harris (4-9-1, 2-7-1 PBC) before deadlocking at 1-1 in an NCAA Division II women's soccer game on Wednesday, October 28.

After more than 38 minutes of scoreless play, junior forward Denisha Paskell (McDonough, Ga.) picked up where she left off in the Lakers last game. Coming off of her first career hat trick, she got Clayton State on the board at 38:14 when she collected a loose ball to the left of the goal and buried into the back right corner for a 1-0 advantage.

That margin would hold up into the second half as the teams put together 20 more minutes of scoreless action. YHC's Emily Ober would change that at 58:47 when she took a pass from Carly Rich and delivered the equalizer with a shot from the left side to the far post.

It would then continue to be a defensive battle as neither team would surrender another score over the next 31:13 to head to overtime deadlocked at 1-1.

Senior defender Saidhbh Collins (Dublin, Ireland) would spearhead a Laker offensive burst in that 10 minute period, recording a shot and a pair of corner kicks along with two other shots by her teammates. Young Harris would not allow any in, just as senior goalkeeper Charlotte McCormack (Wexford, Ireland) turned away the Mountain Lions lone shot.

With the issue still in doubt, it would come down to the final 10 minutes as the teams reached double overtime. A foul-ridden period, Collins again produced offensive opportunities with a shot on goal and a corner, the latter leading to a header attempt by senior defender Lara Moehlmann (Bremen, Germany) that just went wide. YHC's Ober would have the last true shot at ending the game with five seconds left as she put a shot on goal but was stonewalled by McCormack to preserve the 1-1 tie.

Ober's lone goal and Rich's assist would be the only offense for Young Harris and Arielle Charles would earn the tie in goal. She made six saves in 110 minutes to move to 4-9-1 on the season.

After Paskell's goal, Moehlmann led Clayton State with three shots while four others each had solo shots on goal to pace the offense. McCormack went the distance and made nine saves to see her record now stand at 8-7-1.

Having concluded the regular season, the Lakers will now wait to see where they will be seeded in the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The quarterfinals will take place on Tuesday, November 3 at campus sites with the semifinals and championship on November 6 and 8, respectively, in Evans, Georgia.
