A highly accomplished professional, Roane brings 10 years of experience to the Lakers training staff, all of which have come at the college level, and joined Clayton State in August of 2014.
Most recently Roane served as the head athletic trainer at Division III Simmons College in Boston, Mass. since August of 2007. During her time with the Sharks she was responsible for the assessment, care, prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries suffered by any of the 225 student-athletes comprising 10 teams.
As part of a comprehensive plan, she developed and implemented a medical clearance process for all student-athletes beginning with the 2008-09 campaign that included developing the necessary forms and documentation. In 2011, Roane transitioned that process online using the Athletic Trainer System.
Using that system, she maintained complete injury documentation for all student-athletes and implemented yearly concussion screenings along with creating an education program to raise awareness throughout the department.
Roane also worked with various specialty groups, both internal and external, to develop a streamlined and extensive network of service available to all of the Sharks student-athletes. This included the college health center, college counseling center, team orthopedics and a number of specialty health care providers.
She was also responsible for coordinating and scheduling of all hours of operation for the athletic training department, traveled with teams to postseason competitions and helped to illustrate the need of that department to expand beyond just one trainer. As a result, Simmons produced the funding for per diem athletic trainers and eventually hired one part-time trainer, all of whom were overseen by Roane.
In addition to her direct responsibilities of working with the Sharks 10 teams and student-athletes, she not only maintained the athletic training budget and inventory but was directly responsible for designing and outfitting a future off-site athletic training facility.
Prior to her time at Simmons, Roane was an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Notre Dame, handling the coverage of the Fighting Irish’s men’s swimming and diving and men’s and women’s track & field programs. She also assisted with the coverage of all 21 Division I sports with an emphasis on spring sports’ fall competitions.
Additionally, Roane has worked at Precision Athletic Training (Boston, Mass.) from 2009-14, providing per diem athletic training services to middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities and camps and club sports in and around the Boston area.
She has also continued to further her education within her field, attending various seminars and symposia since 2009. That has included the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) Annual Convention in 2013 (Las Vegas, Nev.) and 2011 (New Orleans, Louisiana) as well as the Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital Sports Medicine Symposium in 2010.
Roane holds multiple certifications and memberships, including licensure in Massachusetts, membership in the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and certification through the American Heart Association as a BLS Healthcare Provider.
A 2002 Magna cum Laude graduate of Morgan State University with a Bachelor’s in Health Education (Athletic Training concentration), Roane holds a Master of Science in Sports Medicine from Georgia State University in 2004.
