TAMPA, Fla. – The #13 Clayton State University men's soccer team embarked on their first road trip of the season as they played the Spartans of Tampa on Thursday evening. The two teams braved a weather delay and the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw.
Tampa brought the offensive pressure in the first half outshooting the Lakers, 7-2.
Adrian Lopez and
Camilo Velez provided the shots for the Lakers. Tampa had its fair share of chances, but
Kalle Kuisma and the Laker defensive unit snuffed out each opportunity. The two teams went into the half knotted up at zeros. The Lakers attempted three corner kicks in the half.
Halftime: #13 Clayton State 0, Tampa 0
The Lakers picked it up a little offensively in the second half but Tampa was able to break through on the scoreboard first in the 52
nd minute and led 1-0. The Lakers then peppered the Spartans with shots as
Ethan Elmore and
Arttu Leivonen each attempted shots. The Lakers kept pressing offensively and eventually knotted up the match. In the 75
th minute, off a cross from the nearside by
Miguel Goncalves, Leivonen scored his second goal of the season and the score was moved to 1-1.
Lucas Schofield, Leivonen, and Elmore all attempted shots down the stretch but the two teams finished in a 1-1 draw.
