MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State University head cross country coach Troy Hickom announces four additions to the team for the 2026 season. This class includes four women and one men's runner.
"I am excited to welcome our newcomers this year," said Coach Hickom. "We have a great blend of experience and youth which will gel well with our returners. Our small but mighty group should pack a huge punch this year!"
MEN'S TEAM
Coach Hickom welcomes
Aiden Frye to the team for the 2026 season. Frye, who is a native of Stockbridge, Ga., comes to Morrow after running for Stockbridge for two seasons. In his two seasons, Aiden placed third in the Henry County XC Meet as a junior and won the County meet in the 4x800m relay as a senior. In his senior season, Frye ran the third fastest time in program history in the 3200m & 1600m runs as well as anchoring his team's DMR team who finished with the third fastest time in the state.
Frye joins a team who is led by veterans
James Morrow,
Nehemiah Horton,
Emanuel Dixon,
Mykell Strickland, and
Dion Dial.
Miles Johnson and
Josh Soluade also return as impact performers.
WOMEN'S TEAM
Coach Hickom welcomes three newcomers on the women's side including Giselle Cabrera,
Jamea Lindley,
Rebecca Oji and Juana Cervantes-Gonzales. Cabrera, who transferred from Ursuline College in Ohio, brings a wealth of cross country and track & field experience. In her time at Ursuline, Cabrera finished in the top 50 individually in three meets and clocked her best 5K time finishing in 21:47.2. Giselle also competed in the Conference indoor & outdoor championships in two out of three seasons. In the track season, Cabrera brought home eight top 10 finishes and primarily ran in the 5K, 10K, 3K, 800m run, and 1500m run. Gisele ran a career high 20:05.12 in the 5K and finished with a time of 5:29.12 in the 1500m run and these both were run at the G-MAC Outdoor Championships. In addition, Cabrera finished with a time of 11:53.34 in the indoor 3K, which was also ran at the G-MAC Indoor Championships.
Lindley also brings a wealth of experience to the team as she transferred from LeMoyne Owen and most recently, Allen University. At Allen, Lindley finished 13
th at the SIAC XC Championships with a time of 21:35.5, which is good for a career best time. In addition, she finished as the conference runner-up in the indoor 800m run and in the DMR. In the outdoor championships, she finished third in the 800m run with a career best time of 2:20.80. Jamea also finished fourth in the 1500m run in that same meet. At LeMoyne Owen, Lindley placed in the top 25 individually in each of the five cross country meets that she competed in. In high school, Jamea held four school records, was a two-time MVP, and achieved All-Conference and All-State honors across track & cross country.
Rounding out the newcomer class is
Rebecca Oji and Juana Cervantes-Gonzales. Oji, who ran on the track & field team the past two seasons, is a newcomer on the cross country side. Rebecca was primarily a 200m & 400m dash runner with times of 25.77 and 59.75, respectively. With the addition of Oji, Coach Hickom will have some good depth for the team. Juana is a local product from Mt. Zion HS and comes to Clayton State after running track and playing soccer. In her career, Juana was an All-Region selection in soccer and was the CCPS XC Championship individual champion as a sophomore. In addition, she earned the Athlete of the Month in multiple months at Mt. Zion and she led her team to a team runner-up finish at the CCPS XC Championship as a sophomore and junior. In track, Gonzales-Cervantes ran in the 800m and 1500m runs and the 4x800m relay.
These four runners add to a team that includes the veteran leadership of
Ahlana Failey, and
India Williamson. Sophomores
Maleena Castillo and
Amaya Myers return to the team after impactful freshman seasons.

The Laker cross country teams open their season on Saturday, September 5
