AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced on Friday morning the honorees of the 2026 PBC All-Academic Team for track & field and cross country. The Lakers saw three of their athletes on the list.
On the women's side,
Aerin Summers and
Destiny Hanna were honored while
Sancho Smith was selected on the men's team. This is the third such honor for Sancho while Destiny earned this honor for a second time. This is the first such honor for Summers.
A native of Riverdale, Ga., Summers primarily runs in the sprint races and in the 4x100m relay. Aerin currently holds the program record in the outdoor 4x200m relay with a time of 1:42.85. This season has seen Aerin set a new PR in the 100m dash with a time of 13.20 and in the 60m dash with a time of 8.31. Summers is no stranger to awards as she was placed on the 2025 PBC Presidential Honor Roll.
A native of Villa Rica, Ga.,
Destiny Hanna turned in an impressive 2025-26 season. Destiny is the current record holder in the 100m dash with a time of 11.67, which is also tied for 35
th in the nation. Hanna is also the record holder in the 4x100m relay which she set at the conference championships with a time of 46.94. This season saw Hanna become a three-time PBC Champion in the 4x100m relay as well as the 100m & 200m dashes. At the conclusion of her Laker career, Hanna is a six-time PBC All-Conference selection and four-time PBC champion.
A native of Warwick, Bermuda, Smith finishes Clayton State as one of the most decorated academic student athletes in recent history. Smith earned this honor for a third straight season and is also a three-time PBC Presidential Honor Roll recipient. This season saw Sancho raced to a new PR in the 800m run at the Outdoor Conference Championships finishing in 1:52.11, which was good for fifth in the conference. He also finished as an all-conference honoree in the indoor 4x400m relay with a time of 3:20.07. In all, Smith was a four-time all-conference finisher in the relays.
ABOUT THE AWARD
The PBC All-Academic Team recognizes PBC student athletes who boasted a GPA over 3.5, who is of sophomore standing, and who has played in over half of the games in the season. Transfers will be eligible if they meet the criteria. The Sports Information Directors of the Peach Belt supervise the All-Academic Team award.
