Clayton State Track & Field Saw Record-Breaking Performances at the PBC Outdoor Championships

The Men finished third while the women finished in a tie for third

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Clayton State University track & field teams competed in the 2026 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.  The Lakers saw some incredible, record-breaking performances and saw their men finish in third with 106.5 points and their women finish in a tie for third with 100 points.  That is highest finish for the men's team in program history.  The Lakers saw countless records fall and all-conference honors aplenty.  
 
FRIDAY ACTION
The Lakers partook in mostly prelims on Friday as Davonte Jackson advanced to the finals on Saturday, breaking his own school record with a time of 14.61 in the 110m hurdles.  Santonio Rio then qualified for the 400m dash finals with a season-best time of 49.19 while Marley Tate, Justice Lester, Mariah Handy, and Ziona Harris all advanced to the finals in the women's race.  In the 100m dash, Kevin Turner shattered the school record with a time of 10.46, advancing him to the finals on Saturday.  Drewmel Banks also reached the finals in the race.  Destiny Hanna also broke the school record in the 100m dash as well finishing with a time of 11.85.  She was the only runner in the prelims to go sub 12 seconds. 
 
In the 400m hurdle prelim, both Jackson and Jamien Wright advanced to the finals on Saturday with times of 53.87 and 54.60, respectively.  Ivorie Smith also reached the finals in the women's race.  The final prelim of the day was the 200m dash as both Turner and Banks both advanced while Hanna, Handy, Harris, and Jada Jenkins reached the finals on the women's side.  In the only running final of the day for the Lakers, Camron Gaddis brought home his first all-conference mention in the 1500m run with a career-best time of 3:51.22.  That time is good for second all-time. 
 
In the field, Hailee Jackson-Morgan finished fourth in the hammer with a final throw of 41.97m.  That mark is good for fourth all time.  Jackson then followed up all his excellent races on the track with an all-conference finish in the long jump.  Jackson placed third with a final distance of 7.06m.  Derrick White finished fifth in the event with a new PR of 6.91m, which is third all-time.  In the high jump, Keira Davis earned an all-conference honor as she places second with a final height of 1.65m. After day one of the multis, Avery Moran is second with a score of 3010 after placing first in the high jump and second in the shot put.  Terry Mitchner is currently fifth in the event with 2709 points.  Most notably, Terry finished third in the high jump and fourth in the 400m dash. 
 
SATURDAY ACTION
Action on the track started in the 4x100m relay as the team of Banks, Turner, White, and Dan Lamar finished in fourth with a time of 41.79.  The women's team of Hanna, Harris, Jenkins, and Lester broke the school record and won the race with a time of 46.94.  In the 110m hurdles, Jackson continued to break his own school record as he finished in second place with a time of 14.40.  After Rio finished seventh in the 400m dash, Marley Tate won the women's race with a time of 55.56, which also was good for a new school record. 
 
In the 100m dash, Turner beat his own school record with a second place finish of 10.46 seconds.  Banks finished fourth in the event with a time of 10.56.  In the women's race, Hanna won the race and shattered her own school record with a wicked fast time of 11.67.  In the 800m run, Gaddis secured another all-conference mention with a third place finish of 1:51.37.  Sancho Smith also ran a PR time of 1:52.11, finishing in fifth.   In the 400m hurdles, Jackson finished in second and Wright finished in third with times of 54.16 and 54.21, respectively.  Both Lakers hit all-conference times.  In the women's race, Smith gathered all-conference honors with a third place finish, clocking a final time of 63.61, which is good for a new PR. 
 
The Lakers closed out action on the track in the 200m dash and 4x400m relay.  Turner continued his impressive meet with a second place finish in the race with a time of 22.07.  Hanna then closed out her impressive meet as she was crowned the conference champion in the 200m dash with a time of 24.89.  Handy and Harris finished third and fourth, respectively. Destiny was the only runner to go sub 25 seconds in the race.   Then, the team of Rio, Gaddis, White, and Cameron Baptiste gathered all-conference accolades in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:17.27.  The women's team of Tate, Lester, India Williamson, and Harris finished second by three one-hundredths of a second with a time of 3:52.07.  In the field events, Davonte Jackson gathered yet another all-conference mention in the triple jump with a final distance of 14.78m.  That mark is also good for a provisional mark in DII.  Iyanna Jordan placed seventh in the event on the women's side.  The meet concluded with Jacquelyn Johnson finishing fourth in the discus with a mark of 33.48m.  In the decathlon, Moran finished in second place with a new program record score of 5647.  Moran finished third or higher in seven of 10 events and won the 110m hurdles and the high jump.  Mitcher finished fifth in the event with a score of 4696, which is a new PR.  Terry won the 1500m run and finished in the top four in four of 10 events.  
 
The Lakers ended with 106.5 points on the men's side which was good for third place while the women accumulated 100 points and finished in a tie for third. Jackson was voted the Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight year while Hanna was awarded the Women's Track & Field Most Outstanding Female Track Athlete of the Meet.
