ATLANTA – The Clayton State University track & field teams competed in the Morehouse Relays on Friday and Saturday. The Lakers faced good competition from up and down the lineup. The women's team finished sixth overall and the men finished eighth, as a team.
FRIDAY ACTION
Action on the track began in the 110m hurdles as
Davonte Jackson advanced to the finals on Saturday with a time of 17.76. Then,
Santonio Rio and Jackson led a pack of Lakers in the 400m dash with times of 50.07 and 50.25, respectively. In the women's 400m dash,
Justice Lester finished in eighth with a time of 58.42 while
Ziona Harris and
Mariah Handy also notched top 15 finishes for the Lakers. In the 100m dash,
Kevin Turner qualified for the finals on Saturday with a time of 10.67 while
Destiny Hanna led the Lakers on the women's side with a 12.25 finish.
The Lakers were very active in the 800m run as
Camron Gaddis finished fifth with a time of 1:54.52 while
Sancho Smith,
Emanuel Dixon,
Rakiem Barnes, and
Nehemiah Horton all clocked top 15 times in the race. In the women's race,
Ahlana Failey and
India Williamson led the ladies with times of 2:20.67 and 2:20.96, respectively. Failey finished in fifth while India finished in sixth. To end action on the track was the 200m dash. Turner led the men's side with a time of 21.66 while Hanna led the women's side clocking a time of 25.55.
In the field, the javelin throw saw
Avery Moran throw the fourth best mark in program history with a final distance of 38.78m. Moran finished in third overall.
Alexandra Baracco finished seventh in the women's event. Alexandra made her collegiate debut in the event. In the triple jump,
Derrick White and
Logan Wright finished in seventh and eighth with distances of 13.39m and 13.29m, respectively.
Iyanna Jordan finished sixth in the women's event. In the hammer throw,
Xavier Smith-Robinson became only the second Laker in program history to compete in the hammer, and he finished with a final throw of 30.90m.
Hailey Jackson-Morgan finished fourth in the event with a mark of 39.78m. The Lakers finish out action on Friday in the high jump as
Keira Davis and
Gabriella Lawrence finished in third and fourth with final heights of 1.56m & 1.51m, respectively.
Christian Wiltshire jumped the sixth best height in the men's event with a final height of 1.91m.
SATURDAY ACTION
Action on the track started in the 400m hurdles as Jackson finished second with a time of 54.94 while
Jamien Wright finished sixth.
Ivorie Smith finished sixth in the women's race finishing in 66.97. Later on the track, the team of Dixon, Barnes, Horton, and Gaddis finished second on the 4x800m relay with a time of 7:49.82. Then the team of Lester, Harris, Hanna, and
Niobe Holder finished sixth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 48.97. In the 1500m run,
James Morrow led a group of Lakers with a sixth place finish clocking a time of 4:18.51.
Jada Warren clocked the fifth fastest time in the women's race, 5:15.63. In the 100m dash, Turner finished seventh with a time of 11.24. Jackson then also finished in seventh in the 110m hurdles, finishing in 15.34.
The Lakers then saw
Drewmel Banks,
Tyler Dixon, Turner, and
Rohan Holness finish in third in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:29.04. To conclude matters on the track was the 4x400m relay. The men's team saw the team of Wright,
Cameron Baptiste,
Isaiah Taylor, and Anthony Sommers clock a time of 3:24.41, finishing in seventh, while the team of Rio, Holness, Smith, and Banks finish in ninth with a time of 3:26.30. The team of Williamson, Harris, Smith, and
Marley Tate finished in fourth in the women's race.
In the field, Davis finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 2.28m. Davis set a new program record in the event.
Jacquelyn Johnson then placed fourth in the discus throw with a final mark of 36.97m.
