COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Lakers traveled to Columbus on Saturday afternoon to take on the #17 Columbus State Cougars. The Lakers showed energy and determination throughout the game, keeping the contest competitive, but despite their efforts, Columbus State ultimately pulled away with a 75-53 win.
From the tip, the Lakers set out to establish the tone.
Jasmyn Burts attacked the basket early, scoring in the paint and creating opportunities for teammates.
Paige McDonald and
Dazjanae Greene controlled the boards, grabbing key rebounds and keeping possessions alive. In the second quarter, the Lakers found their rhythm.
Nya Young hit key jumpers that sparked fast-break opportunities, while Burts and
Kyla Greene added points to keep the momentum going. Greene stayed strong on the glass, giving the Lakers extra opportunities and helping keep the game tight heading into halftime.

After the break, the Lakers came out strong, looking to chip away at the lead.
Etaria Gibbons and Burts pushed the pace with drives to the basket.
Tianna Dismuke made hustle plays, grabbing rebounds and forcing turnovers to create more second-chance opportunities for the Lakers. In the fourth quarter, the Lakers battled hard, with Burts and Gibbons finishing inside; Greene and McDonald worked for every second-chance point. Despite their effort and energy, the Cougars pulled away, ultimately keeping the Lakers from achieving their late comeback.
