Augusta, GA--- The Clayton State University men's basketball team traveled to play Augusta University on Wednesday evening. The Jaguars defeated the Lakers 67-58.
The Lakers were able to score the first basket of the game with
Eddie Page getting a tip in to go in. The Jaguars were able to respond with a three pointer and a basket in the paint of their own. After made baskets by Page,
Andre Young, and
DJ Wright, the Lakers were able to tie the score at 9. As the half went on, both teams were able to capitalize off the missed shots with tough defensive rebounds. The Lakers saw themselves down by 9 late in the first half but after a pair of dunks by Page, a three pointer by Joe Thomas, and free throws made by Wright, the Lakers went into the half down by 4.
Halftime: Augusta 34, Clayton State 30
Coming out in the second half, it was the Jaguars that got the made baskets going. Page got the scoring going for the Lakers with a made tip in basket. Going into the first timeout of the half, it was the Jaguars that continued to see made baskets go in which led to a 15 point lead. That lead did not stop the Lakers from continuing to compete. The Lakers were able to make tough shots in the paint. Ultimately, it was the Jaguars that were able to hold onto the lead and come away with the win.
