Men's Track & Field | April 19, 2025
ATLANTA – The Clayton State University track & field teams competed in their final tune-up before the Conference Championships at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday & Saturday. The Lakers competed against a stacked lineup of schools such as UA-Huntsville, Vanderbilt, Hampton, Georgia Tech, and Rowan.
FRIDAY ACTION
Davonte Jackson saw plenty of action in day one of the meet as he finished in the top 25 in the long jump with a final mark of 6.76m and finished with a time of 15.70 in the 110m hurdles. In the 100m dash,
Cayla Brown finished with a time of 12.23 which is good for a new season best.
Destiny Hanna then finished with a time of 12.46, which is also good for a new season best, while
Payton Knowles followed behind with a final time of 12.68. In the men's race,
Kelvin Oppong crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 10.86.
Kalani Wyman followed that up with a time of 11.14. Action on the track was rounded out by
Camron Gaddis in the 1500m. Gaddis clocked a final time of 3:57.27.
SATURDAY ACTION
Jackson kicked off action on the track in the 400m hurdles finishing with a time of 55.37. He also competed in the triple jump, jumped a season-best 14.52m, and finished in 14
th in the meet. In the women's 400m dash,
Ziona Harris clocked a final time of 59.04. In the men's race,
Titus Hand finished with a season-best time of 50.07 seconds. The Lakers saw a strong showing in the men's 800m run with Gaddis leading the pack with a time of 1:53.56. That time is good for a new season best.
Nehemiah Horton followed behind with a time of 1:54.50 while
Rakiem Barnes clocked a time of 1:57.51. That time is also good for a new season best.
In the men's high jump,
Freddie Hawkins finished with a final mark of 1.90m. To close out action in the meet, the Lakers saw good results in the 200m dash. Brown finished with a time of 25.02 and Knowles crossed the finish line in 26.06. In the men's race, Hand finished with a time of 22.25 whole Oppong clocked a time of 22.46.
