Waite Drops 20 in 70-51 Win over Lander

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team hosted Lander University for our first annual Heart Toss game on Saturday afternoon.  The Lakers bounced back nicely after their loss on Wednesday and took down Lander, 70-51.    
 
The Lakers were red-hot from the field in the first quarter scoring 25 points.  Jadah Waite was on fire from three-point land tossing in four, three-pointers in the quarter.  They shot 71.4% from three as a team and 62.5% from the quarter.  The Lakers opened up a 35-13 lead in the early-going of the second quarter.  Nya Young and Ky'Leo Worriels combined for the first 10 points for Clayton State. 
 
The Bearcats held the Lakers scoreless for the final four minutes of the quarter and went on a 7-0 run but still trailed, 40-26, going into the halftime break.  Waite led the team with 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting.  Jada Alston led the team with five boards.

Kyla Greene and Sariya Henry provided the early offense for the Lakers in the third quarter and made the score, 48-32 with five minutes left.  A layup by Jasmyn Burts then sparked a 9-2 run and made the score, 55-34.  The Lakers did not mark a field goal in final 2:20 but still led 58-40 going into the final quarter.  Dazjanae Greene drained a three on the first possession of the quarter and made the score, 61-42. 
 
The Lakers saw production from up-and-down the lineup in their 70-51 win over Lander inside the Loch. 
 
QUICK HITS
  • Waite led the Lakers with 20 points and is currently sixth all-time in career points. 
  • Waite also drained four three-pointers which places her fourth all-time.
  • Burts led the team with 10 boards and added nine points. 
  • 11 of 12 Lakers marked at least one point in the game.
  • The Lakers grabbed 53 boards including seven from Jada Alston, Henry, and Worriels.
