Men's Basketball Begins Final Road Trip with 71-64 Loss at Georgia Southwestern

The Lakers overcame a 16-point second half deficit

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team traveled to play Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday evening.  The Lakers erased a 16-point deficit in the second half but ultimately fell, 71-64. 
 
The Lakers found themselves up early in the first half, 10-8.  Jamall Clyce tossed in eight of the first 10 points scored.  The two teams played evenly until the Hurricanes started to distance themselves from the Lakers.  After Emmanuel Jones buried a three at 17-15, GSW went on a 7-2 run and went up 24-17.  Jones made another three and cut the deficit to four at 24-20. 
 
The Hurricanes went on another scoring run towards the end of the half.  After Yannis Woods made a free throw at 26-24, GSW went on a 9-2 run to end the half and took a 35-26 lead going into the halftime break.  Clyce led the Lakers with eight points while Woods grabbed five rebounds.

The second half saw the Hurricanes jump out to a 15-point lead at 52-40.  Just went the Lakers started to mount a comeback, the Hurricanes responded and led by 16 points at 58-42.  Dashaun Joseph, Aaron Pitts, and Clyce all made shots during that stretch.  Then, the Lakers started cutting into their deficit.  Tahai Morgan sparked a 13-2 run and made the score, 62-57.  Morgan scored nine of the 13 points on the run.  With 2:30 left, the Lakers closed the gap to one at 63-62 after Woods, Jojo Bell, and Pitts all tossed in baskets. 
 
The Hurricanes scored eight of the final 10 points and took down the Lakers, 71-64.
