Women's Basketball Closes out Home Slate with a 61-48 Win over USC Aiken on Homecoming & Senior Day

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid and picked up a 61-48 win on Homecoming and Senior Day inside the Loch. 
 
The game started with Hannah Wright and Jadah Waite burying threes and the Lakers jumped out to an 8-0 lead.  USC Aiken then scored the next six points until Nya Young hit a jumper making the score, 10-6.  The Pacers eventually took a 13-10 lead going into the second quarter.  The Lakers opened the second quarter on a 12-2 run and retook the lead at 21-15.  Waite hit a three and Etaria Gibbons tossed in a pair of field goals. 
 
Dazjanae Greene and Jada Alston knocked down shots in the final moments of the quarter as the Lakers took a 30-21 lead going into the halftime break.

The Lakers started cold from the field in the third quarter and did not score their first basket until Sariya Henry made a layup at the 6:36 mark.  At that point, the Laker lead was at seven at 32-25.  Greene then buried a jumper and made the score, 34-25.  The Lakers then saw a spark from Amiyah Edney-Holmes which tossed in the next five CSU points and made the score, 39-27.  The Lakers took a commanding, 41-29 lead going into the final quarter of play.  Greene converted an and-one opportunity to start the quarter, growing the Laker lead to 44-29.   USC Aiken did not make any headway in the quarter and trailed by as much as 13. 
 
Edney-Holmes, Ky'Leo Worriels, and Waite scored points down the stretch for the Lakers and they pulled out a 61-48 win.

  • Edney-Holmes led the Lakers with 11 points while Waite and Dazjanae Greene followed with 10 each.
