Men's Basketball Falls In Overtime Thriller to Georgia College

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team took Georgia College & State University overtime but fell, 80-73, on Wednesday evening.

The Lakers jumped out to an 8-5 lead at the beginning of the first half after DJ Wright buried a pair of three-balls.  The Bobcats then briefly took the lead at 15-10 after scoring 10 of the next 12 points.  After GCSU took the lead at 24-16, the Laker offense was efficient as they went on a 13-1 run and led, 29-25.  Aaron Pitts converted an and-one opportunity and Jamall Clyce scored four points during that run.

The Lakers took a 31-27 lead into the halftime break.

Halftime: Clayton State 31, GCSU 27

The Bobcats started the second half scoring six of the first eight points and knotted the game up at 33.  After Pitts made a jumper making the score, 37-35, GCSU went on a mini 7-0 run and retook the lead at 42-37.  The Lakers most of the half but hung around in there.  With the Bobcats up six at 50-44, Wright made a pair of threes and Pitts sunk a pair of free throws and the Lakers led, 52-51.  The next several minutes consisted of both teams trading blow-for-blow until the Lakers built up a lead.  With three minutes left, Lay Davis made a pair of free throws and Jojo Bell hit a layup and the Lakers led, 62-58.

The Bobcats scored the final four points of the half and pushed the game to overtime at 62 all.  Neither team scored the final two minutes of the game.

GCSU jumped out to an early seven point lead in the overtime period and never looked back.  Pitts, Wright, Emmanuel Jones, and Marcus Harris made shots in the overtime period, but the Lakers fell, 80-73.
