Men's Track & Field | February 17, 2025
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Clayton State University track & field teams competed in the Peach Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday. The women's team finished third with 36 points while the men's team finished fifth with 33 points. Embry-Riddle won both the men's and women's championships.
MEN'S SIDE
Action on the track kicked off in the 60m dash as
Dominic Archer and
Kelvin Oppong qualified for the finals. Oppong earned a sixth-place finish with a time of 7.09 while Archer brought home seventh with a time of 7.10. In the mile run,
Camron Gaddis finished in fifth with a time of 4:16.32. Gaddis became only the third Laker to clock a sub. 4:20 time in the mile. In the 400m dash,
Titus Hand finished in seventh with a time of 50.45. Action on the track continued in the 800m run as
Nehemiah Horton finished in eighth with a time of 1:56.24, which is good for the sixth fastest time in program history.
Rakiem Barnes and
Sancho Smith followed placing in ninth and 11
th, respectively.
Hand qualified for the 200m dash finals with a time of 22.16 in the prelims. Titus finished sixth place in the finals with a time of 22.25. That time was good for the fifth fastest time in program history. The Lakers then finished action on the track in the DMR and in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Horton,
Sancho Smith, Gaddis, and
Mykell Strickland finished third with a final time of 10:33.88 while the team of
Rohan Holness,
Davonte Jackson, Hand, and Barnes finished third with a time 3:21.96 in the 4x400.
The field events were highlighted by a pair of all-conference finishers. In the high jump,
Christian Wiltshire finished as the runner-up with a final mark of 1.89m and Jackson also finished as the conference's runner-up in the long jump with a final distance of 6.92m. Jackson was the lone selection to the PBC All-Sportsmanship team for the men's team.
WOMEN'S SIDE
Action on the track kicked off in the 60m dash as
Jada Jenkins,
Destiny Hanna, and
Payton Knowles qualified for the finals. Hanna then took home all-conference honors finishing in third with a time of 7.88. Jenkins and Knowles finished in fifth and sixth, respectively. In the 400m dash,
Marley Tate gathered all-conference honors with a third-place finish with a time of 58.91.
Zionna Harris and
JaBresha Palmer also notched points for Clayton State finishing in fifth and sixth place. In the 800m run,
Ivorie Smith clocked the seventh fastest time and finished in seventh place.
The 200m dash saw Harris, Jenkins, Hanna, and Knowles qualify for the finals. In the finals, Harris gathered all-conference honors with a third-place finish with a time of 26.16. Knowles and Hanna then placed in fourth and fifth, respectively. Action on the track concluded in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Harris,
Rebecca Oji, Smith, and Tate finished in third with a time of 4:02.17 which is the third fastest time in program history. The field was highlighted by
Rionna Byrd hitting a new PR in the high jump with a mark of 1.42m. Oji was the lone selection to the PBC All-Sportsmanship team for the women's team.
