Morrow, GA---The Clayton State University men's basketball team captured its first win of the season inside The Loch Friday afternoon against Lane College. The Lakers won the contest 90-81.
From the tipoff, both teams played aggressively each seeing baskets go in consistently. The Lakers got the scoring going right from tip off with a 3 pointer from
Jojo Bell. The Dragons responded with 2 made free throws and a basket of their own to go up by 1. The Lakers were able to stop that lead with a 3 pointer by
DJ Wright to go up by 2. As the half went on, the Lakers were able to maintain the lead seeing shots made from Wright, Bell, Young, Mbow, and Thomas. Going into the half, the Lakers saw a 7 point lead.
Halftime: Clayton State 43, Lane 36
The Dragons were the first to score in the second half but the Lakers responded quickly with a layup by Young. The Lakers were able to capitalize off missed shots by the Dragons with made shots of their own that led them to a 15 point lead with 14 minutes left in the second half. As the half went on, the Dragons were able to cut that lead forcing the Lakers to turn the ball over and playing tough defense. The Lakers never let the Dragons momentum get the best of them as the Lakers were able to make free throws down the stretch to hang on to capture the first win of the season.
