Torrecillas' Goal in the 107th Minute Lifts the Lakers over Georgia Southwestern in the Quarterfinals of the PBC Tournament

The Lakers advance to their eighth straight Semifinal

MORROW, Ga.  – The Clayton State University men's soccer team hosted Georgia Southwestern in the Quarterfinals of the 2025 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Men's Soccer Tournament.  Miguel Torrecillas knocked in the match-winning goal in the 107th minute to lift the Lakers over the Hurricanes, 2-1. 
 
The Lakers knocked on the door at the beginning of the match as Garbhan Feeney, Asbjorn Saevik, Eric Cruz, and Camilo Velez all notched shots in the first 20 minutes of the match.  The score remained at 0-0.  The Lakers pressured the Hurricanes more in the half was Gonzalo LaChica sent in a pair of shots in the midway point of the half but the score remained at 0-0.  The Lakers saw another late opportunity in the 38th minute when Aaron Overmars' shot went off the woodwork. 
 
The Lakers outshot GSW 9-4 in the half and the two teams played to a 0-0 draw going into the halftime break.

The Hurricanes came out firing in the second half.  George Roke and the Laker defensive unit was busy as GSW sent in three shots in the first 10 minutes.  The Lakers finally broke through on the scoreboard.  In the 70th minute, Sonny Simpson fed a streaking Andree Jimenez who finished for the goal.  The Lakers took a 1-0 lead. Despite a lengthy lightning/weather delay, the Hurricanes then turned up the offensive intensity from that point on.  They eventually tied the match in the 89th minute to force the overtime period. 
 
The Lakers and Hurricanes finished regulation tied at one and we head to overtime.  In the first overtime, GSW fired in four shots and saw their shot at the 100th minute just catch woodwork and the score remained at 1-1, going to the second overtime period.  The Lakers had their turn to knock on the door after not getting any opportunities in the first overtime period. 
 
The second overtime saw a pair of shots for the Lakers as Fabian Wagner took the first shot but it was stopped by the GSW keeper.  The next one proved to be the winner.  In the 107th minute, Camilo Velez sent in a free kick, and it was kicked out by an attacker who found Torrecillas and finished for the goal to secure the Lakers a spot in Wednesday's semifinal match.
