Lakers Use A Strong Fourth Quarter Push to Down Augusta, 66-60

The Lakers scored 21 in the fourth quarter to win the game

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team opened 2025 with a thrilling 66-60 victory over a tough Augusta University side on Wednesday evening.  The Lakers used 21 points in the fourth quarter to top the Jaguars.
 
The two teams played a crazy first quarter.  The Lakers took the early 9-7 lead after Kyla Greene scored a layup.  Jada Alston and Jadah Waite buried threes during that run.  After Augusta cut the Laker lead to one at 12-11, the Lakers went on a 9-0 run and made the score, 21-11.  The two teams combined for 15 turnovers in the quarter, but the Lakers led, 21-14 after the first 10 minutes of play. 
 
Waite and Dazjanae Greene supplied the early offense for the Lakers in the second quarter, but the Jaguars clawed back and made the score 28-23 with seven minutes left.  The two teams then traded blows towards the middle of the quarter and the score read 34 all with three minutes left. 
 
The Lakers held onto a 40-38 lead going into the halftime break.

The Lakers came out of the break sluggish and only managed one field goal the entire third quarter and Augusta took the lead at 52-45.  Kyla Greene kit a layup with 1:10 left to mark the lone field goal for the Lakers.  The Lakers put on an offensive clinic in the fourth quarter.  Dazjaene Greene took over the game in the first three minutes of the quarter and tossed in the first five points for Clayton State.  The Jaguars still led 53-50.  Ky'Leo Worriels then put the team on her back and scored the next three field goals and the Lakers took a 59-58 lead with 1:30 minutes left. 
 
Augusta knotted the game at 59 in the final 1:10 left but the Lakers saw a pair of layups from Alston and baskets by Waite and Worriels and went onto win, 66-60.
